Instructions for Local 1264 BBQ

USAGE & RESTRICTIONS:

· Only 1264 Union members can use the grill (per insurance policy).

· No alcohol can be sold at your event (per insurance policy).

DEPOSIT & FEES: Checks or cash will be accepted. If checks are used, two separate checks should be made out to IAFF Local 1264. The first, for $80 is for the deposit. The second check for $20 is for the rental fee. The grill must be returned clean (see cleaning instructions below) and propane bottles must be returned full (see refilling propane bottles below), or forfeit $80 deposit.

MOVING: The BBQ weighs 2,300 pounds. Nothing else may be loaded onto the BBQ trailer when it is being moved. A 2-inch ball with a four-prong flat plug is required on vehicles pulling the trailer. The maximum speed for towing is 45 miles an hour. Check your auto policy for coverage (liability and collision).

SET UP: Place all four jacks in the “down” position and level each one.

LIGHTING:

· Turn both propane bottles on, and then turn both red valves to the vertical position. Open the side and top vents. There are two each. Leave the vents open while the unit is in use. Turn one yellow valve to the “on” position. The lighting access holes are located under the BBQ. Place a long necked butane lighter in the access hole closest to that burner. Repeat this step for each burner.

· Allow the grill to preheat for 15 minutes. The magnet thermometer is useful for checking grill temperature.

CAUTION: The grill handle gets hot! When opening lid you can get burned.

CLEANING/RETURN TO STORAGE:

After cooking, allow burners to stay on a few minutes. This will burn off debris stuck to the grill. Next, turn the propane off and allow the unit to cool completely. Use the wire brushes to remove ash and remaining debris. Plates under the grilling surface must be removed. Clean the grease and debris from BOTH sides. This must be done regularly to ensure consistent heating of the grilling surface. Both large plastic cutting boards are removable and should be thoroughly cleaned, along with utensils, pans, serving dishes and loose cutting boards. Secure the grill lid and replace the propane tank cover securely. Before moving, double check that the jacks are in the “up” position for travel. To prevent jacks from hanging down, hook the red cover tie-downs to the back of the jack handles. Grill grates can be stored in any order, but deflectors underneath have location numbers. Open the side vents to allow the release of cooking debris while cleaning. Double check equipment against inventory sheet to insure that everything borrowed is returned. Any missing parts will be charged against the $80 deposit.

REFILLING PROPANE BOTTLES:

Don’t take the bottles off trailer to fill. Pull the entire BBQ to the filling station. The regulator should only be hand tightened!! Bring your propane receipt to Admin Office in order to have your deposit returned.

INSURANCE:

  • IAFF 1264 pays for a liability policy while on scene and while in use.
  • While towing the BBQ, your insurance policy will need to be in force.

The driver is potentially responsible for any accident that takes place while towing the BBQ. Check with your insurance carrier to determine if your current coverage is adequate to cover this risk.
